Fonts:

Using 'Dafont.com'
I found a lot of fonts which were distressed / distorted. I thought that these would look effective on my album Digipak because my Music Video is quite abstract so would fit in well.

 

I finally chose the Name of the Artist to be just 'Daisy' I thought that it would look more effective as it was shorter than a full name and also slightly more abstract. I decided to write this across the front of the album cover to fit in with usual conventions of Digipaks.

 

Chosen Images for Digipak

I decided that this abstract underwater image would fit well with the back of the Digipak. I liked the different tones and colours and contrast of the image. Also the image is divided up into blocks because of the flowers enabling room for writing space. I cropped the image so that there would be sufficient space at the bottom of the image for barcode e.t.c.

I chose this image for one of the CD's inside the Digipak as the lips created a circular image.

 

I think this image would look really strong on the front of the Digipak. I liked how basic the image was and how strong the contrast was. I thought that the title of the Artist 'Daisy' would fit well on this image.

 

 

I was originally going to use this image for the back of the CD however because the face is in the very center I felt writing over it would detract from the image. However, because I liked the image I felt it could be used as an image inside the Digipak.

Ideas/ Images for Digipak

 

I have edited these Photographs so that the saturation is lower and the contrast is higher to create definition in the image.

I really liked these underwater shots and think that they would describe the content of my music video most easily and create a dramatic eyecatching image ofn the front cover. However, I would like an image of the artist on the front cover with complete eye contact as this is in the conventions of a Digipak.

 

I took some screen shots as ideas for the album cover photos. However, I realised that the quality will not be as good as off the editing suite or photos which I have taken during the filming.

Marina and the Diamonds (The Family Jewels) Digipak

 

My eye was originally drawn to this image because of the front and back of the album. The artist gives eye contact in both of the images. I really like the contrast of black and white , and the fact that the track names are written in a handwriting font and placed carefully and clearly in white so that it stands out against the background, allows all of the attention to be drawn to the writing.

I like how simplistic but abstract these images look there are slight hints of colour in the background of the images however the saturation has been decreased which makes this almost unoticable.

 I think that a font similar to this may look effective on the Digipak I will be creating.

Rihanna (Loud) Digipak

 

This design is very simplistic and again shows a closeup of the artists face on both the back and front cover. The CD's have very simple images on them of roses however the combination of the red and pink roses with Rihanna's skin tone is aesthetically pleasing and works well together. I will be using the same colour scheme in my Digipak. I have noticed that during a fair few Digipak cases the inner pictures are all one image split into 3, however I think I would like to use different images for each inner square on my Digipak.

 

 

 

Florence and the Machine (Lungs)  Digipak

 

Florence and the machine uses quite abstract images in her Digipak. As the Album is called 'Lungs' there is an image of the artist with a pair of lungs showing under her top in reference to the album name on the fron cover. The artists name is located at the top centre of the image and the album name at the bottom centre. The album overall is attractive and abstract which defines the artist. The colour scheme is kept the same throughout. I will be looking to create something abstract but simplistic during the process of creating the Digipak for my Music Video.

 

I have noticed that all of these exhisting artists Digipaks have the Artists face on the front of the album cover most of the time with the artist facing the camera with direct eye contact to draw the viewer in. The actual CD is usually a simpler image such as hands with Florence's album or simply just a colour or pattern. There is also the Artists name written on the front of the album cover and a range of tracks on the album listed across the back of the case. The inside of the Digipak are usually an image of the artist again but of them sainging or slightly abstract and less dramatic as the front image. 

 

Conventions of a Digipak

Conventions

Artist's name and title of the album often displayed together at the top.

Central main image - usually artist .

Colour scheme usually reflects mood and content of the album and would be the same throughout.

The spine of the Digipak- usually has the artist name and album title on it.

Institution's logo will be on the front cover or back cover and/or on the album spine.

The back will have the complete track listing on it. Also an image in the background.

The track listing is clear, and usually to the left. Althought they are sometimes centred.

The track listing is also, sometimes, found on the CD itself.

The CD is simplistic and doesn't usually have a picture of the band/artist on it. Just a simple image or colour.

Stickers can sometimes be seen on album covers, and is the case with Digipaks, which are protected by a thin layer of plastic packaging. The sticker would be on this plastic. The stickers usually have album ratings from professional reviewers and/or a short list of singles featured on the album, and any bonus content that would be on it.

I am going to create a Digipak for the Music Video that I have previously created. The Digipak will be created on Photoshop, using images I have taken during the filming of my Music Video. The Digipak will contain 2CD's and illustrate a range of the artists songs using text within the album and pictures drawing public interest to the CD.

Audience Feedback on Music Video

Facebook

Within 1 hour of posting my Music Video to my Facebook page I had already got 5 'likes' which illustrated that people had viewed the video online and enjoyed it. 7 comments from different people and 1 'share'.

 

Everyone that commented seemed pleased with the final outcome of the video.

I feel I had some really positive comments on my facebook and that the audience had realised my intentions as Robert noticed that it was meant to be an abstract piece.

 I had no negative comments or dislikes on youtube, my video on Youtube currently had 26 likes hopefully more people will view it the more I promote it over Facebook and other social networking sites.
